Our Island

About Us

Tidy Island is one of Manatee County’s few low density communities, with nearly 85% of the island’s total 240 acres protected as a private preservation and wildlife and bird sanctuary.

Our Island offers the tranquil, exclusive lifestyle of your dreams. Once you drive through Tidy’s gatehouse and cross over the stone bridge, you will discover a community like no other. Here you will enjoy living on a pristine, secluded island of waterfront homes and lakeside condominiums where it’s easy to make friends.

Lush beautiful landscaping, mature vegetation and low density of just 96 residences make Tidy Island an attractive alternative to Longboat Key and other Gulf communities. Our private living offers a family and pet friendly neighborhood with easy mainland access, all with the convenience of being centrally located. We are a responsibly managed condominium association with a full-time property manager, office administrator and dedicated maintenance staff. Your privacy is ensured by our 24/7 guarded gatehouse.

Tidy Island is truly a little slice of heaven right here on Sarasota Bay. Visit and discover our paradise today. Even better, come for a sunset. You may never want to leave.

History

Archaeological evidence traces settlement of Tidy Island by aboriginal Floridians to about 500 B.C. Today this island in sheltered Sarasota Bay retains a coastal shell midden and sand burial mounds, testaments to its early inhabitants.

Modern history dates from 1886 when Cornelius Thigpen settled the island. His house has been faithfully reconstructed and is now part of a museum complex that documents the island’s rich history.

The name, “Tidy Island,” according to local lore, is related to the tides of Sarasota Bay. Early inhabitants also called it Tidey’s Island. Either way, the name stems from the fact that settlers could walk from the island to the mainland at low tide.
